Tokyo, Japan, October 30th, 2018- HPC Cloud Company XTREME-D today announced the official release of XTREME-Stargate, a gateway appliance that delivers a new way to access and manage high-performance cloud for the next AI generation. Availability starts​at the end of 2018.

 XTREME-Stargate is an innovative next-generation HPC cloud platform from a start-up focused on HPC cloud offerings. It provides high performance computing and graphics processing and is cost effective for both simulation and data analysis. Following up on the pre-announce of this platform at ISC18, this release details the features of the services provided by XTREME-Stargate.

 The XTREME-Stargate PoC program has been tested with several early adopters. The public services will start at the end of 2018 in Japan, collaborating with Sakura Internet as the major Japanese-focused HPC and Data Center provider. Sakura will offer data center facility and technical support.

 XTREME-Stargate uses the latest Intel-based HPC hardware components (servers, interconnect, software). The main components of XTREME-Stargate are as follows:

1. ​XTREME-Stargate IaaS
 Developed as a cloud-based bare-metal appliance specifically for high-performance computations, optimized for AI data analysis and conventional supercomputer usage. The design includes Intel CPUs, high-speed SSD, and high speed and low latency interconnect. The first implementation in Japan is done with the cooperation of Sakura Internet Co., Ltd as a datacenter partner.

2.XTREME-Stargate Dashboard + HPC Templates
 The front-end system seamlessly connects XTREME-Stargate IaaS and data I/O to users to enable the necessary HPC cloud services to be instantly deployed when needed. With advanced UI / UX, user management, and budget management functions, enterprise users can easily manage and operate their needed workloads. In addition, a number of HPC templates can be instantly created and enable AI data analysis environments to instantly deploy dedicated HPC cloud services. This technology is uniquely designed with HPC and AI workloads in mind, speeding implementation for both on-prem and cloud environments.

3. XTREME-Stargate HPC Gateway (target availability date is April 2019)
 The XTREME-Stargate HPC Gateway appliance connects the customer site and cloud data center. It also enables secure data transfer. Early adopters can add this pre-release feature to their environment. 

4. ​XTREME-Stargate Secure Data I/O (target availability date is March 2019)
 XTREME-Stargate Secure Data I/O is a dedicated multi-layered storage system implemented using the latest SSD technology and parallel file system enabling performance and ease of use. It supports high performance functions for AI workloads where large data analysis is essential and high-speed I/O required.

Tokyo, Japan, June 18, 2018 – HPC cloud company XTREME-D today announced a prototype version of XTREME-Stargate (trademark pending), a solution that combines Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and an HPC gateway appliance to deliver a new way to access and manage high performance cloud. The appliance will deliver an entirely new HPC cloud experience via a robust UI/UX. It also offers non-traditional billing systems that charge based on job rather than on time consumed, as is typical for SaaS or IaaS.

XTREME-D, formerly known as XTREME-Design Inc., is well-known in Japan for architecting technical computing in the cloud. The award-winning company develops and sells XTREME-DNA, a cloud-based, virtual, supercomputing-on-demand service. XTREME-DNA was launched to cut costs and make it easy to build HPC clusters in just in 10 minutes.

XTREME-Stargate HPC Gateway is a small set-top linux appliance that can easily connect to HPC cloud with basic setup over a web portal using the XTREME-DNA interface. XTREME-Stargate removes security concerns when using public or hybrid cloud by providing secure hardware-based data management and access to two types of dedicated HPC baremetal instances at the “secure” and “secret” security levels at the data center. In today’s climate security is paramount, so all clusters are located in data centers with a security level of Tier-3 or higher. XTREME-D has dedicated data centers in the US, Japan, and Singapore.

XTREME-Stargate IaaS comes in two flavors. Shared baremetal cloud utilizes public cloud services such as Azure and AWS and is less expensive, whereas dedicated baremetal cloud runs on XTREME-D’s own datacenters, and is faster and more customizable. Although XTREME-D’s dedicated baremetal cloud is more costly than its shared option, it is considerably less expensive than similar options offered by IBM, as well as easier to use.

(XTREME-D) today announced the completion of a $2.75M financing agreement in Series-A round funding led by World Innovation Lab (WiL). The total funding amount is now $4M, including the previous Pre-A round, and WiL is now the lead investor. XTREME-D will be exhibiting at Supercomputing in Denver, Colorado, November 13-16, where the company will be launching and pre-announcing several new products.
XTREME-D is well-known in Japan for architecting technical computing in the cloud. The company develops and sells XTREME DNA, a cloud-based, virtual, supercomputing-on-demand service that provides unattended services ranging from the construction of a high-speed analysis system on the cloud to optimal operation monitoring, and eliminates the systems after use. XTREME DNA was launched to cut costs and make it easy to build HPC clusters in just in 10 minutes. Cost savings extend beyond equipment, as engineers with the specialized skills required to construct complex clusters are no longer needed.

XTREME-D’s new funding will be utilized for R&D, market launch in the US, expanding the feature set of the company’s current products, and developing new solutions for launch in H1 next year. XTREME Design Inc., a Japanese startup offering a cloud-based, virtual, supercomputing-on-demand service, today announced that it engaged Dr. David Barkai as an adviser for entering the US market with its own HPC cloud service. In this role, Dr. Barkai will leverage his deep experience in HPC technology to provide the fast-growing company with strategic guidance as it expands into the US market. XTREME Design Inc. is planning to exhibit at Supercomputing 2017 to be held in Denver in November (Booth #1485).

Dr. David Barkai:
David is a long time HPC practitioner with over 35 years of experience. He entered the field very shortly after receiving a Ph.D. in theoretical physics. A common thread of Davidʼs career is a focus on the relationships between applications/workloads and architecture. He was in several HPC companies during their hay days – Control Data, Floating Point Systems, Cray Research, Supercomputing Systems Inc., as well as a stint at NASA Ames. And, more recently, in Intel for 15 years ‒ most of it as one of its HPC experts. After retiring from Intel, Dr. Barkai stayed involved with HPC through a couple of years each at Cray and SGI.

XTREME DESIGN Raises $700K in Pre Series−A Round

March 3, 2017

March 3 — Tokyo-based XTREME DESIGN, the Japanese cloud-based virtual supercomputing on-demand service startup, announced on January 31 that it had fundraised $700K in its pre-series A round. This round is led by freebit Investment and includes individual investors, namely Kotaro Chiba (former Vice President of Japanese mobile game developer Colopl) and Yasumasa Manabe (CEO of Takamatsu-Kotohira Electric Railway). This funding is subsequent to the one of 30 million yen (about $260,000) conducted last March from its founders and angel investors. Total capital has reached $1M.

Also, XTREME DESIGN will exhibit a new UI/UX concept and data controller at the SXSW Trade Show to be held in Austin, Texas, starting March 10th. The company will exhibit the brand new UI/UX, “XTREME DNA 2.0” concept for HPDA (High Performance Data Analysis) mainly for the IoT Big Data analysis market.
