HPC Cloud company conducts verification tests of PRIMEHPC FX700 on its high-speed IaaS environment
Palo Alto, California, June 10, 2021 – Award-winning Japanese HPC Cloud company XTREME-D today announced the formation of a technical alliance with Fujitsu Limited to conduct verification tests of Fujitsu’s PRIMEHPC FX700 on XTREME-D’s high-speed Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) environment. The two companies are planning a series of joint activities through this alliance, starting with verification testing of the Fujitsu Supercomputer PRIMEHPC.
AXXE-L by XTREME-D is HPC System Software as a Service, a framework that supports both on-premise and cloud HPC environments and allows users to run all HPC jobs using the same process, regardless of environment. AXXE-L supports all major HPC components required to run HPC / AI jobs and is designed to do everything within a web browser. Its browser-based management GUI provides easy access to a high-speed computational environment that is easy to configure without deep HPC expertise.
PRIMEHPC FX700 is Fujitsu’s high-performance Arm server that features the A64FX CPU, the same CPU used in the Supercomputer Fugaku at the RIKEN Center for Computational Science in Kobe, Japan. XTREME-D plans to incorporate the PRIMEHPC FX700 into its high-speed computing infrastructure, verify the operation of the deep learning libraries originally developed for Fugaku, and conduct benchmarks.
“This is our first experience deploying CPUs other than x86 on our high-speed computing infrastructure,” said Naoki Shibata, Founder and CEO of XTREME-D. “We would like to extend sincere gratitude to Fujitsu for providing us this opportunity, and we look forward to working together to expand the high performance computing industry.”
Akihiko Fujino, Head of HPC System Business Div., Mission Critical System Business Unit of Fujitsu Limited, concurred, saying, “Through this technical alliance, we hope that the solutions provided by XTREME-D and PRIMEHPC provided by Fujitsu will be used to solve social issues, promote cutting-edge research, and enhance corporate competitiveness, such as the development of new drugs, the realization of a safe and secure society through disaster prevention and mitigation, the development of new materials, and the establishment of prototype-less manufacturing. And we will be very glad if the technical alliance between XTREME-D and Fujitsu is of great value to address those issues.” Starting with this verification test, XTREME-D and Fujitsu plan to work closely to jointly promote Fujitsu’s supercomputing products.
XTREME-D’s AXXE-L will also provide the gateway for RIKEN’s trial initiative, Fugaku Cloud Platform, which will allow its partners to access Fugaku through the cloud. “Technical collaboration between XTREME-D, a collaborative research partner of Fugaku Cloud Platform, and Fujitsu Limited, a development partner of Fugaku, will accelerate our efforts to promote the broader use of Fugaku,” said Dr. Fumiyoshi Shoji, Ph.D., Division Director, Operations and Computer Technologies Div., RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS). “Together, we will stimulate collaborative research on the Fugaku Cloud Platform by promoting the many achievements we have made in the development of the most powerful supercomputer in the world. We are very much looking forward to this collaboration.”
