How do you improve upon the excellent HPC in the cloud experience already offered by XTREME-DNA? Add cool new features:
1. Increased security
2. Access to baremetal and hybrid cloud
3. Dedicated server instances
4. An even easier-to-use interface
XTREME-Stargate is a solution that combines Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and an HPC gateway appliance to deliver a new way to access and manage high performance cloud. It offers four key advantages over XTREME-DNA: container-based templates, hybrid cloud capability, specialized baremetal instances, and secure data access.
The Advantage of Container-Based Templates
XTREME-DNA’s HPC templates already come with an OS image and scripts for auto-building HPC clusters and setting up middleware and software. With the launch of XTREME-Stargate, users can now access multiple clouds across different cloud infrastructures, so the appliance supports container technology from Singularity that makes it easy to move workloads between clouds. As a result, our HPC templates are very easy to update, as each is a single-source file, so changes propagate across clouds.
Hybrid Cloud Capability
XTREME-Stargate functions as a “super head node” for HPC cloud clusters, providing easy access to on-premise, private, and public cloud without integration headaches. Users can access multiple clouds, including baremetal cloud, via XTREME-Stargate IaaS.
Unique Specialized HPC Baremetal Instances
XTREME-Stargate IaaS comes in two flavors. Shared baremetal cloud utilizes public cloud services such as Azure and AWS and is less expensive, whereas dedicated baremetal cloud runs on XTREME-D’s own datacenters, and is faster and more customizable. Although XTREME-D’s dedicated baremetal cloud is more costly than its shared option, it is considerably less expensive and easier to use than similar options offered by other baremetal cloud providers. Templates are based on Intel-based architecture (Xeon + NVMe + Omnipath). Options for accelerators include the new vector engine card developed by NEC (now in Beta).
Secure Data Access
XTREME-Stargate is focused on cloud data management and security. The gateway appliance is a small Linux-based set-top box that can easily connect to HPC cloud with basic setup over a web portal using the XTREME-DNA interface. XTREME-Stargate offers enhanced data management features, including encryption-based downloading and uploading and secure hardware-based data management.
XTREME-Stargate is now available for early evaluation. A prototype of the set-top box was on display at the XTREME-D booth at ISC last month. If you are interested in the XTREME-Stargate early adopter program, please apply.
